University of Melbourne
Students will be trained to undertake various creative translation tasks between English and Chinese. Through lectures, discussions, critical readings, and real-world case studies, students will develop insights into creative translation practices including literary translation, audiovisual translation, and game localisation. Through practical translation tasks and interactive activities, students will familiarise themselves with the linguistic, cultural, legal, and ethical considerations involved in creative translation, and develop professional competence in translating creative texts and media. Aligned with the increasing adoption of AI-driven technologies in the language services industry, the students will learn to critically assess the limitations of AI in creative translation tasks, and to make effective and ethical use of AI technologies to enhance their productivity and creativity in the translation process.
