University of Melbourne
This subject takes a comparative approach to explore key areas of contemporary social policy, in Australia and across the OECD countries. Each week students will engage with a different policy area, including family policy, health policy, employment policy, welfare and ageing policy, through a comparative lens offering insights into how societies promote equity and well-being through their social policies. By comparing social policies across countries and as they evolve over time, students will learn to identify what works, what doesn’t, and why. In addition, students will be encouraged to critically assess, justify and advocate for social policy change.
