Indigenous Cultural Expression

This subject will enrich your understanding of the complexities, challenges and possibilities which Indigenous cultural heritage has faced historically and in the present. Where the legal and policy frameworks of the settler State constrain the definition of Indigenous cultural heritage, this subject takes an expansive view which is foregrounded in contemporary Indigenous perspectives and practices. It will deepen your appreciation of the role Indigenous cultural heritage can play in enhancing Indigenous self-determination, identity, and resistance. This subject will enhance your ability to critically engage Indigenous cultural productions in the past and present, deepening your understanding of the politics of representation, consumption and refusal.
