This subject establishes the key concepts and tools for developing clarity and coherence in academic writing. The subject examines the features, functions, processes, and development of academic language and applies the knowledge of language systems to academic writing, a key area of academic work. Topics include issues of identity and academic literacy, thinking about writing as thinking, the importance of audience and purpose, coherence and cohesion, voice, using figurative language, feedback and revision, and the use of language and other resources.
