Approaches to Reading

This subject develops students’ understanding of the inter-related linguistic knowledge-bases, cognitive processes, and social and cultural practices involved in reading practices. Various interpretations of reading will be discussed, including learning to read, reading for engagement and motivation, and reading for critical purposes. Students will critically engage with research related to pedagogical practices that support reading across the lifespan, including reading texts in diverse forms and texts produced by creators from diverse communities, such as First Nations.
